Keep your jewelry sparkling for years with these simple habits.

1. Store each piece in an airtight pouch

Air and moisture cause tarnish over time. Keep each piece in its own small zip pouch or the Miniz box, squeeze out the air, and store pieces separately so they don't scratch each other.

2. Keep it away from water and chemicals

Put your jewelry on last, after lotion, perfume and hairspray, and take it off first at night. Remove it before swimming, the beach, the gym or the shower: chlorine, salt water and sweat dull plating and enamel.

3. Be careful in heat and humidity

In hot, humid climates like the Gulf, wipe your pieces after a day outside and never leave them in a hot car or in direct sun. Light and heat can also fade some gemstones.

4. Wipe after wearing

At the end of the day, wipe each piece with a soft, dry cloth (an anti-tarnish cloth is best for silver) to remove oils, moisture and dust before storing it.

5. Rotate your pieces

Give jewelry a rest between wears. Silver that is worn regularly and stored well tarnishes less than silver left in a drawer for months.

Gold-plated, silver and solid gold
